South Carolina republican senator Tim Scott was in Dallas Tuesday and he had lunch with Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson. Scott met with Mayor Johnson who recently announced that he was switching to the republican party.
Johnson and Scott met at Mi Cocina Mexican restaurant downtown next to Klyde Warren Park. Before lunch, Mayor Scott walked senator Johnson around the park and they looked at the numerous food trucks lining the park that was filled with children enjoying the attractions.
After lunch, the two dignitaries shook hands and hugged before the Mayor left without addressing reporters. Senator Scott stayed and answered questions for several minutes.
Johnson announced last month that he was leaving the democratic party to join the republican party.
Even though the mayor did not speak to reporters, he did release his reason for joining the republican party in a press release sent to the media from Senator Scott Monday.
“While Dallas has thrived, elsewhere democratic policies have exacerbated crime and homelessness, ” Mayor Eric Johnson said. “The republican party is the grand opportunity party.”
Scott boasts what he calls republican values
“Common sense values, lower taxes, safer communities and empowered parents and families are what we’re (republicans) about, Senator Tim Scott said. “We are happy to have Mayor Johnson.
